Fred Henne Territorial Park

General Information

Conveniently located just 3 km outside of Yellowknife's city centre. Fred Henne Territorial Park is on the shore of Long Lake, with a beautiful sandy beach and boat launch providing the opportunity to enjoy a variety of water activities. The 4 km Prospector’s Trail is accessible from the park and highlights the gold bearing geology of the area. Kitchen shelters with indoor and deck seating can accommodate up to 60 people, a full range of amenities make Fred Henne Territorial Park an extremely popular destination.

Park Highlights

Across the highway from the park, a hiking trail leads through a wilderness area to connect to a trail system winding around Yellowknife's lakes and linking different parts of the city. Check at the gatehouse before you start out for recent wildlife sightings or inquire about guided tours.

Nearby Attractions
Near the Yellowknife Airport, a blue Bristol Freighter greets visitors arriving by air to Yellowknife. One of 10 Bristols aircrafts on display worldwide, this former freighter was the first wheeled aircraft to land t the North Pole. It stands as a reminder of the the aviation history of the North. Nearby are picnic tables, Trails and interpretive signage.
