Important information

Pets in parks

Exploring the stunning parks of the Northwest Territories is an exciting adventure, and having your furry companions join you can make it even more enjoyable. However, even the most well-behaved pets can unintentionally disturb wildlife and the natural environment, or be affected by them. By following the park’s rules and regulations for camping with pets, you help ensure a safe and positive experience for your family, fellow campers, your pet(s), and the wildlife.

Leash requirements

Pets must be leashed at all times for their safety and to ensure they don’t disturb other visitors or wildlife. Leashes protect our fur friends from getting lost, injured or encountering wildlife and leading wild animals back to the rest of the family.

Pet-free areas

There are a few areas where pets aren’t permitted at all. These include:

  • Beach areas
  • Showers, washrooms, or change houses
  • Designated children’s play areas or picnic shelters
  • Concession areas
  • Any public buildings or structures

Cleaning up after your pet

While you're exploring the park, make sure to clean up after your pets. Pet owners are required to pick up all waste left by their pets and dispose of it in the provided receptacles. This helps keep the parks clean and enjoyable for everyone.

By following these simple guidelines, you and your pets can have a wonderful time experiencing the natural beauty of the Northwest Territories' parks.
