The Northwest Territories Parks legislation establishes the framework for the establishment, protection, management, and planning of our Territorial Parks.

Territorial Parks Act and Regulations establishes how park areas are protected, managed, and developed to preserve cultural, historical, and ecological areas of significance for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future generations. The legislation can be a helpful guide for understanding what activities are prohibited in parks and what kinds of permits can be applied for.   

Types of Parks: The legislation applies to all categories of parks, including: 

• Recreation Parks
• Heritage Parks
• Wayside Parks 

Enforcement: Park Enforcement Officers are designated by law to uphold the rules and regulations that protect and preserve the Territorial Parks. Their primary role is to ensure compliance with these regulations by educating visitors and helping to create a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone in the parks.
