Attention
Fire Restrictions at NWT Parks
Due to extremely dry environmental conditions and the increased risk of wildfire, fire restrictions are currently in place at designated Territorial Parks. These restrictions prohibit all open fires, including campfires in approved fire pits and any wood-burning fires, even those contained within a device.
Equipment permitted during the fire ban include:
- Propane-fueled camp stoves
- Enclosed propane BBQs
- Other propane-fueled cooking and heating devices
All permitted equipment must be used within regulation fire pits and must not produce a flame exceeding 0.5 metres in diameter or 0.5 metres in height.
Campfires are currently not permitted at the following parks:
- Blackstone Territorial Park
- Fort Simpson Territorial Park
- Sambaa Deh Territorial Park
- Fred Henne Territorial Park
- Yellowknife River Territorial Park
This information is current and will be updated if environmental conditions change and campfires are restricted. To avoid surprises on your next visit, check back before you travel.
