UPDATED* Park Closures and Property Retrieval

September 10, 2023

As we reach mid-September, many NWT Parks are closing for the season. For the full list of closure dates across all NWT Parks, please visit https://www.nwtparks.ca/node/66802

We understand that this has been an unusual summer for many campers, and due to evacuations in communities and wildfire damage sustained at NWT Parks facilities, some parks have been closed prematurely and will not re-open before the end of the camping season.

For campers with RVs and other property remaining at closed NWT Parks locations, you will be able to retrieve your property from those parks when it is safe to do so, however, overnight visits will not be allowed.

North Slave parks are currently accessible until September 22nd for campers to retrieve personal items. During this time, overnight camping will not be permitted.

For questions related to North Slave parks, please email heidi_kane@gov.nt.ca

For questions related to all other NWT Parks facilities, please contact parks@gov.nt.ca

Many parks are in high risk areas. Check the GNWT’s public safety page (https://www.gov.nt.ca/en/public-safety) for key safety information, and follow NWT Fire and the Government of the Northwest Territories Facebook pages for the latest safety updates.

Highway conditions are variable in the Territory this season and can change very quickly with little advance notice.  For real time highway information to avoid unexpected delays and possible highway closures please follow GNWT/GTNO Infrastructure highway information page @GNWT_INF on twitter and view The Government of the Northwest Territories Highway Information Map  .
