NWT PARKS ALERTS
UPDATED JULY 18, 2014
Reid Lake Territorial Park CLOSURE
Reid Lake Territorial Park and Campground will remain closed this weekend and until further notice. Fire conditions are extreme, particularly east of the park. People are advised to stay away from the area.
Refunds for campers with existing reservations at Reid Lake Territorial Park will be issued over the coming week. Seasonal permit holders will be compensated at a daily rate proportionate to the amount paid while the park was closed. The North Slave regional office will be contacting permit holders individually. People who have booked through the online booking system are asked to contact email@example.com for a refund and to avoid a cancellation fee. For updates on Reid Lake Territorial Park and Campground and other Territorial Parks, please visit www.NWTParks.ca or facebook.com/NWTParks.
For updates on status of fires throughout the Northwest Territories, please check www.nwtfire.com.
Due to the extremely dry weather conditions, open fires are banned in all parks in the North Slave Region.
The following territorial parks are included in this fire ban:
- Fred Henne Territorial Park
- Prelude Lake Territorial Park
- Reid Lake Territorial Park
- All Day Use areas within the North Slave Region
As a reminder, during a fire ban, all open fires are banned within the park, including fires in designated fire pits. Camp stoves and BBQ's (propane, briquette and charcoal fired) are allowed so long as the BBQ unit includes a cover that can completely enclose the firebox. The cover is a mandatory condition of use of BBQ's in the parks. If a unit has an open flame without a cover it is not allowed.
